Painting the Heller Jeanne D'Arc's Lower Hull and Island

With the lower hull primed, I painted the lower hull Model Master Acrylic Aircraft Gray.  This is a near perfect match for French Navy Gray.   Top decks were painted Gull Gray.  The Jeanne D'Arc has a black stripe on either side of the hull up to the Exocet launchers.  I masked that area off and hand-painted the stripes with Tamiya's NATO Black, because it gives the stripes a nice faded look.

The flight deck was painted a mixture of Gull Gray and a little Khaki to give it a weathered look.

There are a few areas of touch up where the gray became lighter and stood out.  Not a problem.  A little weathering will help smooth out nearly all of the color variations.

I also painted the island as well.  Various details were picked out in white, red, international orange, and black acrylics.

After painting the lower hull, I added all of the miscellaneous details such as bollards, stairs, etc.  Everything was painted and detailed beforehand.  Everything dried for 24 to 48 hours and then the lower hull was given a gloss coat.  The next chapter will focus on the decals for the lower hull.
