Island and the seams
I test fitted the island again. Here you will find a very large seam that will need to be filled. Also, the front end is a little warped. It took me several tries to get it perfectly lined up. The main bridge fits to the main island parts with very little of any problems. However, watch the gap that forms on the left side of the bridge. It will need to be filled.
At this point, I sanded off the molded-on hatches, stairs, and ladders. These were replaced by PE parts from GMM. Also included in the 1/400 Navel ship set, are placards for the French Navy. These placards, feature the words valor, honor as well as others. They are little gems. The etching quality is amazing. The text is very clear, especially for the size.
I also scratch built the island's clock. This is one of the defining features of the Clemenceau class. Even the Sao Paulo (ex-Foch) still has one on its island. This was made with a bit of plastic sanded into the correct shape.
