Waterline
I understand the appeal of full-hulled ships, however I think it seems unnatural for a ship to sit on a set of blocks or brass posts. So I waterlined the hull. Using a dremel motor tool, I removed the lower part of the hull just a little below the water line.
This was my first time using a motor tool. I have to say I am not completely happy with it. The motor tool really chewed the plastic up. Perhaps it was the cutting blade I used or the speed. Either way, there was a lot of clean up once I separated the two portions.
After a lot of sanding, I was able to clean up the hull. Even with that, the hull does not lay completely flat.
However, I can live with it since I intend to display the ship in a scene.
